Oak Hill Convalescent Home

Oak Hill was a substantial building outside Ipswich, Suffolk, which, in 1926, was handed to the Institute on a lease, for the benefit of Institute members, and their dependants. The Oak Hill Trust Fund was created to help support the costs involved with running the property as a convalescent home.

In 1931 the lease was surrendered and the convalescent home was discontinued. In 1933, the Institute governing Council decided that the Trust Fund should continue as a charitable trust, to continue the support of journalists, or their dependants, in need of convalescent support, and the Institute of Journalists Oak Hill Convalescent Fund was created.
